Land of the Midnight Sun

You wake up with the cool, crisp wind blowing on your face. Slowly, you get out of bed and walk towards the window. You look out and see the rising sun over the mountains. Now, you realize that you are getting closer to your destination. Everyone on the cruise is getting anxious to get off and explore.

The first destination is Juneau. There are so many exciting things to do here! One of the most popular things to do here is go take an adventure in nature and explore the wildlife. Whether it be going fishing, or going or a hike, or going whale watching, the views are amazing. Some people even stay up late and watch the northern lights. They are a true phenomenon and a 'must see'.

My family and I took the common path. We spent our entire day exploring nature. The first thing we did in Juneau was whale watching. We went out on a boat along with 50 other people in search of humpback whales. The whale watching tour lasted 5 hours! Disappointment hit us when we didn't see as many whales as we expected, but I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. With the sun peaking out from behind the mountains, the birds flying high in the sky, and the water looking so crystal clear and blue, the views on the boat were absolutely breathtaking. Even though it is typically rainy in Juneau, the weather there that day was perfect.

Now that the day is over, everyone is heading back to the cruise to relax. There has been a lot of walking today and you need to take a break. Maybe you will go and chill in the hot tub, or swing by the ice cream bar. Today has been a good day. When you wake up tomorrow morning, you will be a new destination and start your adventure all over again.

The next morning has arrived and you are abruptly awakened from the loud sound of the fog horn. You know can gather that the cruise is about to dock. Looking out your window you can tell that it is a very foggy and cold morning. You have arrived at your next destination. Welcome to Ketchikan!

The small town of Ketchikan is excited to see another cruise ship docking. Their economy is very dependent on tourism. The town holds a lot of history, and it is the first established town in Alaska. It is also known as the salmon capital of the world. Their biggest industries are tourism and fishing. During the winter months, downtown Ketchikan becomes a ghost town and a lot of people move somewhere warmer. The people who stay in the winter are mostly fishermen.

While in Ketchikan, my family went hiking and electric biking riding. We biked along the road through the mountains and trees. It was a beautiful day to go biking. On our hike we got to see a waterfall and we ate wild berries. They were delicious. Also that day we went to a lumberjack show. It was very entertaining. Even though it was just a show for the tourists, it was still a great experience.

The day is over and everyone is heading back to the cruise, eagerly waiting to see what adventures the next destination holds.
